Clinical Hypnotherapy is a variation of an everyday experience, like day dreaming.
What is clinical hypnotherapy?
Hypnotherapy is a type of psychotherapy which involves accessing and working with the subconscious mind to deal with issues such as addiction, stress, fears, insomnia, phobias, and anxiety. By going into hypnosis, the conscious and subconscious minds can become more easily balanced which can allow for greater control and change.
Clinical hypnotherapy has been used therapeutically for many years. It can assist the person to find solutions and discover their unique resources. During a session, the hypnotherapist will use a gentle induction to enable the client to go into an altered state or trance. The client is then invited to explore any physical and or emotional issues in this relaxed dream like state, while still being in control. The hypnotherapist will use suggestions or stories relevant to the client (based on previous discussions and exploration together), enabling you to face and change self-limiting thoughts or behaviours.
Clinical hypnotherapy can assist in transforming deeply established behaviours, thought patterns and emotions that are stored in the subconscious affecting distinct parts of one’s life.
The client is aware of all that is happening during the session and the hypnotherapist cannot make the client do or say anything against their will. It is not like stage hypnotherapy which is about humour and performance.
Hypnotherapy is safe and useful for people of ages provided it is delivered by a qualified hypnotherapist.
Milton Erickson’s style of Clinical Hypnotherapy is a gentle respectful therapy allowing the client to find their own way and explore what might feel right for them. It invites the client rather than instructs. It is a time to be still and put aside the pressure and concerns of daily life.
Hypnotherapy can be helpful for:
Anxiety: Often causes a person to feel distressed and fearful about whatever they are anxious about. They may feel uncertain and unsure often with little confidence in their ability to cope.
Weight loss: For those who struggle to lose weight, it would seem they are in conflict with their body and self-image. Often feeling defeated in their efforts to succeed. Such, that they denigrate themselves over time to feel a failure in looks and ability to change behaviours, break habits or form new habits.
Smoking: Is a hard habit to release. Furthermore, it can often start when the person was young, fit, and healthy with the serious health effects of smoking seeming to be a long way into the future. As time passes, the physical effects are all too evident and the cost of smoking can cause the individual to feel trapped.
Pain: hypnotherapy may assist in the reduction of pain and by assisting the person to feel more relaxed as strain and tension is reduced. It helps to change the perception of the pain.
How many sessions will I need?
There are no predetermined number of sessions. It depends on each person. Some people require one session or a handful of appointments, whereas others my benefit from a series of regular appointments. It is always useful to review how things are going with your therapist.
